What will happen to Huguette Clark?
Sep. 1st, 2010 10:58 amI've been following this story about 104-year-old copper heiress Huguette Clark, who has been in the hospital for the last twenty years even though she owns at least four massive properties, with interest. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story, but here are a few of the highlights. The potential for ethical breach in a case like this is exceptionally high, especially considering the amount of money Clark possesses as well as her reclusive nature and health (not to mention the fact that her attorney has banned family and potential heirs from seeing her). It will be interesting to see if her attorney and accountant, who manage her fortune for her, stayed on the right side of the law and/or if the accusations of the attorney's former paralegal (that the attorney and accountant wrongfully accepted "gifts" from Clark as well as tried to force her to sign a will that would leave her fortune to them instead of distant relatives) are correct. There have already been reports that the accountant is a registered sex offender, and the attorney and accountant both are suspected of wrongfully benefiting from Clark's previous attorney's will. As expected, everyone's pointing fingers at each other, and the investigation will probably uncover a story that won't be easy to unravel.
That's a very bare bones description, but I thought I'd share. Ah, the lifestyles of the uber-rich and secluded.
