Pains and Thanksgiving Plans
Nov. 23rd, 2013 09:31 amIf I start in on my aches and pains, we'll be here for most of the morning. The short of it is my teeth still hurt (cold water and food seems to trigger it now, so I'm wondering if it's cavities, which I've never had before), my right arm hurts from a flu shot I got on Thursday, and I slept wrong last night and somehow threw my left shoulder out of wack. I'm kind of falling apart, though at least my mood has finally improved a bit. I think today is going to be a pretty lazy day.
That's a little weird for me to say, I guess.
Mike's job is going well from what he's told me, which is good. It's nice to be settling into more of a normal routine, though his work schedule is anything but set in stone, which is how he likes it. He at least gets weekends and holidays off now (in some cases, even more holidays than I do!), and they reimburse him for a lot of his expenses. It should work out pretty well, especially since it's something he knows about and can manage a little better than learning a different job in an entirely different industry. I think it's a good thing overall. Still working on it.
We're going to Utah on Wednesday, and I'm looking forward to that. It's kind of weird, though, because I've never spent Thanksgiving away from my core family group, though Katie hasn't attended in years. I think the last time she did was for Siobhan's 21st birthday (which fell on Thanksgiving, boy was she mad!). It'll be interesting to see how Mike's family celebrates it (even if I still think having dinner in the middle of the day is odd). One especially nice gesture is my sister-in-law has asked me and her other new sister-in-law (because Mike's brother Zach also got married this year) to send her a traditional dish from our families. It's very cool of her to think of us newcomers, particularly because I know the feast itself is pretty stressful without adding extra dishes you've never made before to it. I would have been fine having whatever she made, but it's very sweet of her to do. There are a couple of other activities planned, like seeing the lights at Temple Square, playing board games, and taking a group picture, but I'm mostly just glad I don't have to see my uncle who also lives in the Salt Lake City area.* It should be a pleasant trip.
*(We went to Thanksgiving at my Uncle Bob's house once when I was about... 17 or 18 maybe? He's my mother's oldest brother and has a minor claim to fame. Anyway, it was mostly awkward because he's about six years older than my mother and always saw her as a brat and/or resented her. They talk maybe twice a year, and it's never for more than five minutes. We have a long history with him being kind of a dick to our family, and I didn't invite him to the wedding. I thought I had a longer explanation for this, but I don't really want to get into it.)
I only have two days of work this week, so that's pretty nice as well. Just need to remember to pay the monthly bills and such before we cruise out of town. I don't have any big plans, but I should probably try to get something done today. So it goes.
