Dreams, Riley's Farewell, New Purchases

I've been having a lot of jacked up dreams lately, most of which I mercifully don't remember. This one, though, I did. I was married to Austin. A fire started, and he tried to find something to put it out. He grabbed a gun and shot at it to try to extinguish it. This backfired on him when a stray bullet hit the television and ricocheted back and hit him in the chest. He went into another room, where I assumed he was going to call to get help. I followed him and found him on the couch watching television. When I asked if an ambulance was on the way, he said he would be okay because he only had a bunch of glass shards in his body.
What the hell?
We had a very nice visit in Utah. We arrived Friday afternoon, where we convinced Mike's dad to take us to lunch because neither of us ate much before our flight. After that, we all chilled at Mike's sister's (Katie's) house until dinner, which was at kind of a fancy-pants restaurant that Mike's niece (Riley) was going to miss eating at. Then we headed back and watched a few episodes of "Gravity Falls" (a cartoon on the Disney channel) that was pretty funny. We watch a fair amount of cartoons, so it looked like something we could get into.
Saturday, Katie cooked a Thanksgiving dinner because we're pretty sure we won't be able to make it back out there for it this year (plus it was probably the only time we'll get everyone together since Riley will be on her mission for the next 18 months). I also took a walk with Mike's dad because I'm obsessed with my step count lolz. It was nice, though. He turned to me and said, "No matter what happens, whatever we talk about, say we talked about mattresses." Hehe. After dinner, we watched "Inside Out" by Pixar, which is a good movie about emotions and learning to deal with growing up and other cool themes, but good lord, I dare you to get through it without crying. MAN!
Sunday was Riley's talk at their Mormon church, which was interesting. I'd never been to a Mormon church before, so I understand Mike's upbringing a lot more now in a few different ways. (I won't elaborate because the Mormons I know are lovely people, but I will say I saw at least one teenager wearing a "Screw this" face that I'm pretty sure was how Mike looked at that age.) Hehe. Riley's talk was very mature, and her party afterward was nice as well. More people showed up than were invited, but overall, the atmosphere was very low-key and supportive. We sat at the table mostly and observed as well as talked to one of the only non-Mormon couples there. After that was over, Mike's dad and I took another walk, where he talked a fair amount about Mormon beliefs, his early family life with Mike's mom (Kathy) and a slightly awkward detour into a story about his friend and how hard it was for him to stay pure for marriage because he got married in his late thirties. Uh... Okay? Later on, we watched Hotel Transylvania after playing the most pathetic version of Apples to Apples ever. (Seriously. Mike, Katie, Kathy and I sat on couches while Riley sat on the floor, and we all passed cards to each other rather lazily. Hahaha.) At one point, we also played the Game of Things, where we weirded out the family with some of our answers but whatever. ;) (What do you forget? 9-11? HOW DARE YOU MIKE JONES?!)
Monday, we headed home after going to a nice sushi lunch at a restaurant owned by the non-Mormon couple we were talking to at the party. Super tasty. At one point, Mike went to the bathroom, and Riley said it was really nice having us and that she expected to get letters from us. :'( That kind of hit home how long she will be gone. I can't say I understand the practice of Mormon missionaries not being able to talk to their families except on Christmas and Mother's day, but to each their own. It will be strange not to see her whenever we can visit again, but it will be good for her growth as a person too.
This week hasn't been too strenuous. I worked for three days then had yesterday off so I could go with Mike to his follow-up appointment for his ankle. His doctor said he could start putting weight on his foot again, but to do so gradually so he can get used to it again after not being on it for eight weeks. He is still using his crutches to get around, but at least he can now put both feet on the ground and move forward. I think that makes things much easier to deal with. After we got home, I finished a blanket I started the week I broke my own foot, so I guess that's kind of fitting. Hopefully going forward won't involve any more broken feet, but we'll see what the future holds.
Other than that, got a new dishwasher today (because I've hated the way ours doesn't clean our dishes for quite a while now) and custom framed Mike's anniversary gift (a printout on cloth of our vows). We also finally got to try Peg's Glorious Ham 'n Eggs, which opened in our town a few weeks ago, and bought some groceries. Pretty successful overall, I think. Mike goes to Livermore tomorrow, and then it's time for another week. So it goes.
